Space Saving Computer Desk

One of the essentials of 21st century furniture is the computer desk, whether that is a desk big enough to take all the paraphernalia of full-size pc tower, and one of the old-type monitors plus speakers, printer, CD/DVD storage and even, perhaps, gaming joysticks - or a space saving computer desk sufficiently large enough to accommodate a laptop and, perhaps, an LCD monitor. Regardless of the size, however, if you have a computer you are bound to need a designated desk at some point just for your computer requirements. Rather than deciding on the desk you need you would be better advised to look first at the space you have available in which to accommodate your new desk - and then seek out the features you are hoping to include, taking into account the size of desk that will fit the space you have available and, last of all, the style of desk to suit your requirements.

The Vantage Corner Desk combines a shelf and cabinet with a pull-out shelf for a keyboard and plenty of desk space for telephone and other accessories. Manufactured in Harvest Cherry, this desk is currently retailing at $239.00. Meanwhile, the O'Sullivan Corner Computer Desk, Model 10349 Soho Corner Workcenter is selling at just $150.00. Another O'Sullivan corner model, Model 11014, is also retailing at just $150.00. Both of these models come flat-packed but are easily put together within a short space of time. Another manufacturer, Bestar, also produces corner computer desks. The Bestar Access 2113 and the Bestar Access 2115 L-shaped computer work center are both well-designed, space-saving models.Going slightly more upmarket, at the slightly higher price of $299.00, is the Quebeko Ambience Corner Computer Workstation, Model 7116. Incorporated in this design is an integral filing cabinet. My own personal favorite, however, is the glass computer desks. What I particularly like about this desk is that, apart from its space-saving features, it wears well. It is easily maintained and always looks attractive and, above all, fits with all my other furniture in the room. Furthermore, it was not expensive to buy! I paid $99.99 for the Modern Ergonomic Computer Desk, Model MLS278 - and, as I've mentioned, I bought this a couple of years ago and it has fulfilled everything I was hoping for in a computer desk.

Endless roadworks; Mailbag

HOW much longer are we to put up with the ever ongoing roadworks? In the Thornhill Lees area of Dewsbury they are strengthening the bridge near Slaithwaite Road. They were supposed to start the work in June, but they did not start until July so the work is to take at least six months.

So, instead of finishing in December 2011, it will be next January 2012 (maybe)! On Sunday, July 31, more roadworks were completely blocking off Savile Road, just around the corner. Almost opposite the police station - yes, more roadworks. You are advised to take an alterative route, when you do, they're digging that road as well? RICHARD INGHAM Thornhill LeesIn the last year or so they have dug up parts of Bretton Road and Headfield Road in Thornhill Lees area. It has been misery for motorists and walkers.

Why Children Need A Child Desk

All child experts will tell you: one of the most important ways of encouraging your childs interest in school is to set up his own study corner. Having a dedicated learning areaincluding a space to write and even his own Child Desk encourages him to focus on his homework and even enjoy it. Heres why:

  • Make sure that you can walk completely around your desk in a full circle. This makes sure colleagues or workload does not cramp you. You should have space to breathe!
  • Always sit with a solid wall behind your back to ensure that you have support in your life. Never sit with a window behind you.Teaches neatness and responsibilityNo distractions
  • Do not place paper cutter or fax machines or any machine with a blade next to the front door. The "cutting" energy can cause staff and customers to be unpleasant and even possibly to back stab and fight each with other. In conclusion, a child desk is an important piece of furniture for the personal development of a child. The study habits, which she learns early in life, will undoubtedly benefit her educational and her eventual professional development for the rest of her life. Though a child desk cannot guarantee a straight A student, it is a great place to start. The most ideal locations to situate a home office, in order of best to second, third ad fourth best are the North (the Career Sector), the Southwest (the Wealth sector), the Northeast (Skills and Talents sector) or the South (the fame and recognition sector.) If possible try to locate your home office in one of those locations.
  • Do not have clutter in your office. Desktops must be kept tidy and clutter free. Avoid placing In and Out trays on your desk. Try to keep what is in use on your desktop.
  • If you have a company signboard or logo it should be optimally placed in the southeastern area, the Southern area or the northern area of your home office.

  • Feng Shui Tips for Your Home Office

Did you know that over 50% of women now run their own home business or work from home? Get your compass out and find the following directions because we are going to try and make things run a little smoother for you using the ancient art of object placement - Feng Shui.

  • If you own a NCR or cash till try and place that in your southeastern wealth corner as well.
  • To enhance your wealth and prosperity, position your indoor water feature in the southeast element of your home or office. For career luck, place it in the north. A tabletop fountain made of bamboo or flat round stones is always good for this purpose.May wind and water shower you with many blessings!
  • Never set your desk at the top of a staircase as chi will roll down the stairs and cause you loss of opportunity and wealth. If this is unavoidable, place a mirror above the front door looking in and facing the staircase.
  • In your office, never have the main door opening into your desk as this causes you to be faced with unexpected situations to deal with. Never have a door jamming against your desk, or your prosperity will always be blocked.
  • If people entering your business immediately face a wall and a long corridor try placing a hanging crystal in this area to allow good chi to accumulate. Also place mirrors here to direct the chi into your office. This leads to posture problems that can eventually cause fatigue, discomfort, and aches and pains (especially in the neck, shoulder and back area). They wont be able to concentrate, much less enjoy what theyre doing and be inclined to continue doing it longer than they have to. Computer tables and child desks that are designed especially for children circumvent these problems and make work more pleasant. They discover learning is funas long as they have the right support.
  • Do not place an empty vase next to the main door, as empty vessels suck good chi trying to enter your place of business. If you have a vase make sure it is full of flowers! When a child has his own child desk or study table, you can easily monitor whether or not he takes care of his things. Did he put away his crayons? Has he kept his papers neatly stored in a folder? You wont be able to do that if he shares the table with somebody else. First of all, he may not have his own space to store his study materials. Second of all, you dont know who left the clutter (and you can bet the child will always say it wasnt his fault).
  • Avoid placing cactuses in your office as the needles of these plants are thought to create negative shar chi. Shar or sha chi is stagnant or harmful energy. When a child uses an adult-sized desk or table and chair when doing homework, theyre forced to slouch forward on the desk, shoulders hunched. Their legs dangle on the very high chairs, or they end up sitting precariously on pillows just so they can reach the screen. Kids give up trying to be comfortable and just try to finish their homework or research as fast as they can. Not exactly the kind of homework habits you want to develop.
  • Place a fish tank or fishpond in the southwestern corner of your office. If this is not possible consider building a Koi pond in the southwestern sector outside your building.
  • Avoid having sharp accessories, such as a paper cutter blade or the corner of a Xerox machine pointed at your desk. It is shar chi that symbolizes the cutting knife-edge or a disapproving finger pointing at you.
  • In the office always place the fax machine, telephone, and computers in the southeast wealth sector, as this will attract more contacts.Children like having their own special place, and when they have a child desk they can really call their own, theyre more likely to stay there. Which means they will read more, write more, and just as importantly, take pride in whatever they make when theyre there. They feel responsible for what theyve done, and theyre darn proud of it. (Heres a tip: keep the wall next to the child desk empty, or hang a bulletin board, so they can post their recent art works.)
  • Do not place your desk in a room so that it is between two doors because this causes chi to rush by and pass you by along with all of your good fortune. In other words the good energy walks in one door, right past you and out the back door! When a child shares a desk or a computer table with other people, other people or the things on the desk can easily distract him. For example, he may sit down at the desk to do research on a report on dinosaurs, but then fiddle with Mommys rolodex or discover his brothers computer games. A dedicated child desk lets you limit distractions. For example, you can ensure the childs desk is in an area that the television cannot be heard. You can also minimize the clutter on the table, leaving only art or writing supplies and paper. Even if she feels restless and unfocused, there isnt anything left for her to do but study. Here are some other general tips that are thought to bring prosperity to your business.
    • If you have candles in your office, light the wicks to make sure they are burnt, even if you don't plan to light the candle. An unlit candle is bad feng shui as it represents the limitations of possibility.Greater Comfort
    • Don't put a shelf over your desk. This symbolizes burdens the world crashing down on you at any moment. The heavy shelf also symbolizes burdens and difficulties.
    • Position your desk to have a clear view of the door. If this isn't possible, hang a small mirror so you can easily view the door's reflection.

May wind and water shower you with many blessings!

Catholics lead in Vietnam AIDS ministries

HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM * It takes 30 minutes from downtown by taxi through the motorbike-packed streets of this sprawling megacity to reach the Tieng Vong (Echo) Center. One eventually arrives at a Catholic church, walks to the rear, turns a corner, and there finds an opening to a parish center. Two rooms actually--one a waiting area where two dozen visibly ill men and women sit listlessly; the other, a patient care area with old filing cabinets along the wall, some desks, chairs, and on one side of the room, Nguyen Thi Vinh, a middle-aged, broad-faced woman with a direct manner and a remarkable capacity to live the corporal works of mercy.

Vinh said she keeps careful records. Each month she compiles a list of the 100 poorest people who come to the center for medicine. These are the ones, she says, who get what amounts to pocket change, small amounts of assistance by most measures--except when you have almost nothing. Then a little help makes a big difference. The group spent months, years, at first, seeking out the needy In time, the parish gave them space for the center and eventually, as attitudes in society began to change, people began to come to the center.
